It has been 2-years that the Apple launched it’s latest generation of iPod touch. The company will allegedly change this fall. The most recent iPod touch was launched in May 2019, but has largely been out of the spotlight. A new report comes that the Apple is working on the new iPod touch eighth-gen.
The new report comes from the MacRumors contributor Steve Moser who cites Twitter users AppleLe257 and Apple_Tomorrow as sources of information and renders. Details of the device are still unknown but the render including Moser’s report it suggests that the iPod eighth-gen will feature an iPhone 12 like flat edges design and with a variety of color options which we saw for iPhone 12. The renders also suggest that the iPod touch eighth-gen will feature only a single-camera setup as the past releases.
It is unclear how big the iPod touch’s display will be and what type of specs it will have. The renders suggest that the device will feature Face ID and screen will stretches from edge to edge. The current iPod touch’s display size is 4-inch, which is very small by today’s standards. We would expect the new device to at least get upgraded to be as big as the iPhone 12-mini’s 5.4-inch screen.

While we’re playing the guessing game, we can expect the new iPod touch to feature a 64GB of storage as base option. And also expect to feature A14 Bionic chip which was introduced with iPhone 12. We anticipate Apple to use older specs to keep the cost of new iPod touch down. The current model is available in $199 and comes with 32GB storage and A10 fusion chip.
According to Moser, he wasn’t independently able to verify the information in the report. So he said to treat all this as a rumor, not as a leak. Moser’s notes that in November 2020 Apple added iPod touch to their Apple Music PR blurb, possibly suggesting a new model is on the way.
